Advantages of Samsung Lithium Ion Cell

  • Longer Life Cycle

    Lead acid batteries lose 50% of their initial capacity after one and a half years of use (about 400 cycles), whereas lithium ion batteries maintain 75% of its initial capacity even after three years of use (about 800 cycles), which is significantly economical with reduced costs and inconvenience of battery replacement.

  • No Memory Effect

    Ni-Cd and Ni-MH batteries gradually lose their maximum capacity when they are repeatedly recharged after being partially discharged, so called Memory Effect. However lithium ion batteries do not have memory effect, meaning they maintain the maximum capacity without being fully discharged, which consequently increases consumer convenience.

  • Eco-friendly Battery

    As Ni-Cd and lead acid batteries contain heavy metals harmful to humans and the environment, there might be a high hazard risk in the process of manufacturing and disposal. However, lithium ion batteries do not have hazardous materials, hence eco-friendly.

  • High Energy Density

    Lithium ion batteries’ high energy density provides three to five times higher capacity and energy than Ni-Cd and lead acid batteries when made into a pack of the same size and weight. In other words, when made into a pack of the same capacity, lithium ion battery packs are smaller and lighter than its counterparts, and therefore more convenient.

  • Superb Storage Characteristics

    Lithium ion batteries have a much lower self discharge rate than any other batteries. Batteries slowly self discharge even when left unused, which reduces their initial capacity. Lithium ion batteries retain 93% of initial capacity after one year of storage, as compared to 60% of lead–acid batteries.

  • Fast Charging

    It takes 8 to 10 hours to fully charge lead acid batteries, whereas lithium ion batteries need less than 3 hours, and 90% charging is available within 2 hours.
